Max is gearing up to unveil a spine-chilling prequel series set in the eerie town of Derry, known for its terrifying encounters with Pennywise the Clown. Titled “Welcome to Derry,” the series promises to delve into the origins of the infamous antagonist, with Bill Skarsgård reprising his role.
While eager fans await its premiere, Casey Bloys of HBO offers insight into Max’s ambitious lineup, highlighting the wealth of Warner Bros. IP at their disposal. Following the highly anticipated “House of the Dragon,” the network is set to introduce “The Penguin” series, derived from Matt Reeves’ “The Batman,” followed by the “Dune” prequel series later in the fall. Looking ahead to 2025, “Welcome to Derry” will take center stage, bringing Stephen King’s unsettling universe to life.
Behind the scenes, Andy Muschietti, Barbara Muschietti, and Jason Fuchs are steering the ship, with Muschietti slated to direct multiple episodes. The series boasts a stellar cast including Taylour Paige, Jovan Adepo, Chris Chalk, James Remar, Madeleine Stowe, and Stephen Rider.
Set against the backdrop of the 1960s, “Welcome to Derry” will unravel the events leading up to the spine-tingling occurrences depicted in “It: Part One,” the 2017 film adaptation of King’s novel. As the narrative unfolds, viewers will uncover the chilling origins of Pennywise the Clown, a character immortalized by Tim Curry in the 1990 miniseries and later portrayed by Skarsgård in the films.
Originally published in 1986, King’s sprawling novel has captivated audiences for decades, exploring the sinister underbelly of Derry, Maine, where the Losers’ Club faces off against Pennywise, both as children and adults.
With anticipation building for “Welcome to Derry,” fans can prepare for a journey into the heart of darkness, where nightmares come to life and the secrets of Pennywise await revelation.
