Ahead of the third installment in the Abbott family saga, the prequel spinoff “A Quiet Place: Day One” is set to hit theaters on June 28, 2024.
In “A Quiet Place: Day One,” viewers will uncover the origins of the world’s descent into silence, expanding upon the universe crafted by John Krasinski’s acclaimed horror franchise. Take a look at the newly released trailer below.
The concept of horror franchises venturing into bustling urban settings like New York City is nothing new, with “Day One” following in the footsteps of films such as “Jason Takes Manhattan,” “Scream VI,” and “Gremlins 2: The New Batch.” Introducing these iconic monsters into one of the noisiest locales promises to deliver thrilling and heart-pounding sequences, glimpses of which are teased in the trailer.
Starring Lupita Nyong’o (“Us”), Joseph Quinn (“Stranger Things”), and Alex Wolff (“Hereditary”), “Day One” is directed by Michael Sarnoski (“Pig”).
Djimon Hounsou, who featured in “A Quiet Place Part II,” is set to reprise his role in “Day One.”
Entertainment Weekly provides insight into the prequel’s storyline: “Lupita Nyong’o portrays Sam, a woman embarking on a day trip to New York City just as the monsters emerge. Amidst the chaos, she finds herself teamed up with Eric (Joseph Quinn), and together, they must navigate the city’s perilous landscape to survive.”
The spinoff, conceived from an original idea by John Krasinski and Michael Sarnoski, is scripted by Sarnoski. Meanwhile, Krasinski has hinted at plans for the Abbott family storyline to evolve into a trilogy.
Produced by John Krasinski, Michael Bay, Andrew Form, and Brad Fuller through Platinum Dunes, “A Quiet Place Part II” debuted to a robust $57 million at the domestic box office in May 2021, accumulating a worldwide total of $297 million. The franchise’s continued success underscores its expansion and appeal to audiences worldwide.
