Cinderella’s Stepsister Elvira Takes Center Stage in New Horror Film ‘The Ugly Stepsister’

Following the recent release of the horror film “Cinderella’s Revenge” in theaters, Variety has revealed that another horror movie revolving around Cinderella’s stepsister is on the horizon.

Making her feature debut, filmmaker Emilie Blichfeldt brings forth “The Ugly Stepsister,” with Memento International initiating sales at Cannes this May.

Described as a blend of comedy and horror, the film offers a bold and unconventional perspective on the classic tale, presenting the story through the eyes of Cinderella’s stepsister, Elvira.

The narrative unfolds in a kingdom where beauty reigns supreme, portraying Elvira’s gruesome journey as she strives to compete with her strikingly beautiful stepsister and win the attention of the prince at any cost.

Starring Lea Myren alongside Thea Sofie Loch Naess and Ane Dahl Torp, the film challenges traditional narratives and delves into themes of beauty, power, and societal expectations.

Director Emilie Blichfeldt shares, “With this ‘beauty horror,’ I aim to lure the audience into the ‘girl-dreaming-of-marrying-the-prince-fairytale’ before exposing its raw and authentic essence. It’s time to elevate the story of the ugly stepsister from the shadows of Cinderella and recognize it as the iconic feminist narrative it truly represents – a tale of the tyranny of beauty.”

Memento International expressed enthusiasm for the film’s contemporary relevance, highlighting its exploration of the pressures women face to conform to society’s beauty standards. They believe that Emilie’s approach offers a refreshing perspective, giving voice to the underdog in an entertaining yet thought-provoking manner, allowing audiences worldwide to resonate with the story.
