Indonesian horror cinema, marked by hits like “Satan’s Slaves,” “May the Devil Take You,” and “Impetigore,” continues to captivate audiences, and the latest addition to the scene is the intriguing film “Respati.” Variety has shared an exclusive first look image and additional details about the upcoming horror flick.

According to Variety, Barunson E&A, the production company renowned for the Korean Oscar-winner “Parasite,” is making a significant investment in Base Entertainment’s “Respati.” The partnership includes Barunson E&A undertaking worldwide sales responsibilities and pre-selling rights at the upcoming European Film Market in Berlin later this month.

“Respati” follows the story of a teenager endowed with the unique ability to enter the dreams of others. When he becomes witness to a malevolent spirit claiming lives within these dreams, he realizes a connection to the mysterious real-world deaths that are unfolding.

Directed by Sidharta Tata, known for works like “Waktu Maghrib” and “Ali Topan,” “Respati” aims to offer a fresh perspective on the horror genre. Tata expressed enthusiasm about the project, stating, “We’ve had fun creating a fresh perspective on the horror film and looking forward to sharing it with everyone.”

Base Entertainment, the production house behind Joko Anwar’s “Impetigore,” is also at the helm of “Respati.” As the Indonesian horror industry continues to gain global recognition, “Respati” promises to be another spine-chilling addition to the lineup.
