Ahead of its Sundance premiere, a new teaser poster for “In a Violent Nature” unveils the undead slasher villain named “Johnny,” offering a unique perspective as the killings unfold through his eyes.

The poster features the tagline, “Nature is Unforgiving,” setting the tone for Shudder’s upcoming slasher, which explores the enigmatic resurrection, rampage, and retribution of an undead monster in a remote wilderness. Departing from the traditional slasher format, “In a Violent Nature” provides a twist by presenting events from Johnny’s perspective.

The film’s plot revolves around the removal of a locket from a collapsed fire tower in the woods, housing the rotting corpse of Johnny. Triggered by a 60-year-old crime, Johnny’s vengeful spirit is resurrected, determined to retrieve the locket. His mission leads him to a group of vacationing teens responsible for the theft, and he systematically slaughters them one by one, leaving anyone in his way as collateral damage.

Written and directed by Chris Nash, the cast includes Ry Barrett, Andrea Pavlovic, Cameron Love, Reece Presley, Liam Leone, Charlotte Creaghan, Lea Rose Sebastianis, Sam Roulston, Alexander Oliver, and Lauren Taylor.

Produced by Shudder as a Shudder Original, the film is also produced by Peter Kuplowsky and Shannon Hanmer. Samuel Zimmerman, Shudder’s vice president of programming, expressed excitement about “In a Violent Nature,” describing it as a tremendous new slasher that honors the iconic subgenre while offering a fresh and brutal journey.

The world premiere is scheduled for January 22 at the Sundance Film Festival, with Shudder having acquired the film ahead of the festival. While no release date has been confirmed, the film is expected to debut in 2024. Stay tuned for more updates on this gripping slasher.
