Director Christopher Landon Officially Leaves from ‘Scream 7’

Troubles continue to plague the production of ‘Scream 7.’ Following the exits of Melissa Barrera and Jenna Ortega in recent weeks, director Christopher Landon confirmed his departure from the project via Twitter today, revealing that he had officially left weeks earlier.

In a tweet, Landon expressed, “I formally exited Scream 7 weeks ago. This may disappoint some and please others. What was once a dream job turned into a nightmare. My heart aches for everyone involved. Everyone. But it’s time to move on. I have nothing more to add except that I hope Wes’ legacy endures amidst a divided world. What he and Kevin created is incredible, and I felt honored to have shared even a brief moment in their brilliance.”

While directors Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett of Radio Silence, alongside Chad Villella, remain as executive producers, the departure of key cast members like Barrera and Ortega, who played pivotal roles as sisters Sam and Tara Carpenter, signals a significant pivot in the storyline. The involvement of Jasmin Savoy Brown or Mason Gooding in the upcoming installment remains uncertain.

With the absence of a director, the sequel faces deeper challenges. Landon’s revelation about his departure weeks ago only compounds the film’s uncertain future.

Landon boasts a portfolio that includes directing credits for ‘Happy Death Day’ and ‘Freaky,’ along with contributions to the ‘Paranormal Activity’ franchise as a writer and director.

As developments continue to unfold, the fate of this beleaguered sequel hangs in the balance. Stay tuned for further updates on its tumultuous journey to the screen.
