The highly anticipated sequel to “Ghostbusters: Afterlife,” titled “Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire,” is set to bring the iconic franchise and its original Ghostbusters back to the bustling streets of New York City.

A new image from the film, unveiled by Empire Online, showcases Bill Murray reprising his role as Peter Venkman within the familiar confines of the iconic firehouse. While Venkman made a brief appearance in “Ghostbusters: Afterlife,” it seems “Frozen Empire” might feature more involvement from the original trio.

The plot for “Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire” sees the Spengler family returning to the historic New York City firehouse, joining forces with the original Ghostbusters. This reunion unveils a clandestine research laboratory intended to take ghost-busting to unparalleled heights.

However, the stakes escalate when the discovery of an ancient artifact triggers the release of a malevolent force, necessitating a collaborative effort between the new and old Ghostbusters to safeguard their home and prevent a catastrophic second Ice Age.

Directed by Gil Kenan (“Monster House,” “Poltergeist”), the film boasts an ensemble cast including Patton Oswalt, Kumail Nanjiani, James Acaster, and Emily Alyn Lind, alongside returning favorites such as Bill Murray, Finn Wolfhard, Ernie Hudson, Mckenna Grace, Paul Rudd, Celeste O’Connor, Logan Kim, Annie Potts, Dan Aykroyd, and Carrie Coon.

Jason Reitman, the director behind “Ghostbusters: Afterlife,” serves as producer for this highly anticipated sequel. Initially slated for a December 2023 release, “Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire” is now scheduled to hit theaters on March 29, 2024.
