Jennifer Love Hewitt expressed her eagerness to revisit her role in the I Know What You Did Last Summer series. Earlier reports hinted at her and Freddie Prinze Jr.’s potential return for a sequel, but Prinze Jr. later clarified that no offer had been extended to him at the time.

In a recent podcast interview with Inside of You With Michael Rosenbaum, Hewitt enthusiastically confirmed her interest in reprising the character of Julie James. When asked about appearing in a new installment, she wholeheartedly responded with a definitive “100%” and expressed her fondness for the series, stating, “I loved making those movies. I’d do it. For sure.”

Regarding the potential sequel’s development with Sony, Jennifer Kaytin Robinson was reported to be directing, while Leah McKendrick was set to handle the screenplay. The original 1997 film, directed by Jim Gillespie and written by Kevin Williamson, was adapted from Lois Duncan’s novel. It led to sequels in 1998 and 2006, but Hewitt and Prinze Jr. returned only for the first sequel. The movie revolves around a group of friends stalked by a hook-wielding killer following a tragic incident in their town.
