One of the most eagerly anticipated horror films of the upcoming year is Robert Eggers’ remake of Nosferatu, a project eagerly awaited by fans of his previous works like “The Witch,” “The Lighthouse,” and “The Northman.” Despite Focus Features not yet setting a release date, Empire Magazine has provided an exclusive first look image, building excitement among horror enthusiasts.

In Empire’s 2024 Preview, Eggers shared, “It’s a scary film. It’s a horror movie. It’s a Gothic horror movie. And I do think that there hasn’t been an old-school Gothic movie that’s actually scary in a while. And I think that the majority of audiences will find this one to be the case.”

The released image unveils Lily-Rose Depp’s character Ellen and tantalizingly teases the unmistakable claws of Nosferatu. Bill Skarsgård embodies the role of Count Orlok in this adaptation.

“I’ll say that Bill has so transformed, I’m fearful that he might not get the credit that he deserves because he’s just… he’s not there,” Eggers hinted about Skarsgård’s performance.

Although the release date remains unspecified, the film is expected sometime in 2024, with more reveals on the horizon.

The ensemble cast features Willem Dafoe, Nicholas Hoult, Emma Corrin, Aaron Taylor-Johnson (Kraven the Hunter), Simon McBurney (The Conjuring 2), and Ralph Ineson (The Witch).

Eggers’ rendition of Nosferatu tells a gothic tale of obsession between a haunted young woman in 19th-century Germany and the ancient Transylvanian vampire who relentlessly pursues her, bringing unspeakable horror.

Eggers, renowned for his directorial prowess in films like “The Witch” and “The Northman,” is helming the project and has penned the screenplay.

The original 1922 Nosferatu was directed by F.W. Murnau, while Werner Herzog, another prominent German filmmaker, created his version of the classic tale in 1979.

The 1922 silent movie depicted the vampire Count Orlok’s fascination with a German real-estate agent’s wife while seeking to acquire a house, although it was an unofficial adaptation of Bram Stoker’s “Dracula,” leading to efforts to destroy all copies.
