Netflix Provides Latest Developments for the ‘Fear Street’ Franchise; Standalone Movie in Progress
Two years after Leigh Janiak’s ambitious trilogy, Netflix is returning to R.L. Stine’s Fear Street universe with a new standalone movie, as reported by Collider.
This isn’t the first time we’ve heard about a potential fourth Fear Street movie. Initial reports surfaced in December 2022, and according to Netflix’s Scott Stuber, plans for the new movie are still in motion.
Stuber, the Head of Netflix Film, explained, “Obviously, there’s a lot of books. There’s one stand-alone that we’re working on right now that we’re once again trying to get the script right, but I like it very much, and so does the team. So I feel like if we can get that script right, there would be a great kind of extension of that franchise.”
The “Fear Street Trilogy,” based on R.L. Stine’s teen horror franchise, made its debut on Netflix in the summer of 2021. The three films unfolded a massive story over three weekends of release.
The fourth movie currently in development seems to be crafting its own standalone narrative. Given the abundance of Stine’s tales, there’s certainly no shortage of inspiration to draw from.
Netflix’s Fear Street franchise includes:
– Fear Street Part One: 1994 – A group of teenage friends accidentally encounters the ancient evil responsible for a series of brutal murders that have haunted their town for over 300 years.
– Fear Street Part Two: 1978 – Set in Shadyside in 1978, this installment follows the events at Camp Nightwing during summer break. When another Shadysider is compelled to kill, the fun in the sun transforms into a gruesome fight for survival.
– Fear Street Part Three: 1666 – This chapter unravels the origins of Sarah Fier’s curse, bringing the history full circle on a night that forever alters the lives of Shadysiders.
