‘Poltergeist’ TV Series in Initial Stages of Development by Amazon and MGM

Nearly a decade has passed since the last installment in the Poltergeist franchise, with the 2015 Gil Kenan-directed remake failing to make a significant impact, emerging in the wake of two sequels and a TV series.

So, what’s the latest in the world of Poltergeist? Amazon, in a notable move, recently acquired MGM, and it seems they are poised to revive the classic horror franchise.

Variety has reported that a Poltergeist television series is in the early stages of development at Amazon MGM Studios. Unfortunately, no further details regarding their plans have been disclosed at this time.

Darryl Frank and Justin Falvey are set to serve as executive producers on behalf of Amblin Television.

The original Poltergeist, a horror classic, made its debut in 1982. Directed by Tobe Hooper and co-written and produced by Steven Spielberg, the film featured JoBeth Williams, Craig T. Nelson, and the late Heather O’Rourke as a family haunted by supernatural terrors in their suburban home.

Following the original hit, Poltergeist II: The Other Side arrived in 1986, followed by Poltergeist III in 1988. In 2015, there was a relatively forgettable remake. Additionally, the TV series “Poltergeist: The Legacy” ran from 1996 to 1999, narrating the tale of a secret society called the Legacy and their mission to safeguard humanity from occult threats.

As the details about this upcoming Poltergeist series unfold, we will keep you informed, so stay tuned for more updates.
