Following the conclusion of its eleven-season run on AMC last year, “The Walking Dead” has ushered in an era of spin-off follow-ups. The first season of “The Walking Dead: Dead City,” which revolves around the characters Maggie and Negan, unfolded earlier this year. Meanwhile, the inaugural season of “The Walking Dead: Daryl Dixon” is drawing to a close and will feature the inclusion of the Carol character in its second season. Next up in the franchise is “The Walking Dead: The Ones Who Live,” a limited series that catches up with Rick and Michonne, portrayed by Andrew Lincoln and Danai Gurira. AMC has recently released a teaser trailer for the show, confirming that it will premiere in February 2024.

Gurira, who is co-creator of the mini-series, is also one of the writers. Comprising six episodes, “The Walking Dead: The Ones Who Live” will present an “epic love story of two characters changed by a changed world. Kept apart by distance. By an unstoppable power. By the ghosts of who they were. Rick and Michonne are thrown into another world, built on a war against the dead
And ultimately, a war against the living. Can they find each other and who they were in a place and situation unlike any they’ve ever known before? Are they enemies? Lovers? Victims? Victors? Without each other, are they even alive — or will they find that they, too, are the Walking Dead?”

Gurira collaborates on the mini-series with Scott M. Gimple, Chief Content Officer of the Walking Dead Universe. Gimple expressed the mutual creative challenges and ambitions of their partnership, noting, “She challenges me, I challenge her, and neither one of us lets the other off the hook. In life, I’m more a character actor; Danai is a lead. When we’re working, when we’re pitching, when we’re just dealing with life stuff—it’s a good combo.” He also praised Gurira’s creative ambition and her desire to produce new and distinctive work.

“The Walking Dead: The Ones Who Live” was filmed in New Jersey and features an ensemble cast including Pollyanna McIntosh as Jadis, Lesley-Ann Brandt as Pearl Thorne, Terry O’Quinn as Beale, and newcomer Matt Jeffries as Nat, alongside Andrew Lincoln and Danai Gurira. Gimple serves as the showrunner and executive producer along with Lincoln, Gurira, Denise Huth, and Brian Bockrath.
