Visionary filmmaker J.A. Bayona, known for his work on cinematic gems like “The Orphanage,” “A Monster Calls,” and “Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom,” is set to enthrall audiences once again with the Netflix survival thriller, “Society of the Snow.” This gripping tale draws inspiration from true events and the eponymous book penned by Pablo Vierci.

“Society of the Snow” is gearing up for its grand debut at the Venice Film Festival, where it will serve as the closing night film on September 9, 2023, before making its presence felt in the Pearl’s section at the San Sebastian Film Festival.

While a specific Netflix premiere date is yet to be unveiled, fans can get a sneak peek at the official teaser trailer above.

The film delves into the harrowing events of 1972 when Uruguayan Air Force Flight 571, chartered to transport a rugby team to Chile, crashed deep within the unforgiving Andes. Out of the 45 passengers onboard, only 29 managed to survive the catastrophic accident.

Stranded in one of the world’s most hostile and remote environments, their fight for survival forces them to resort to extreme measures.

The ensemble cast of “Society of the Snow” boasts talents like Enzo Vogrincic, Agustín Pardella, Matías Recalt, Esteban Bigliardi, Diego Vegezzi, Fernando Contigiani García, Esteban Kukuriczka, Rafael Federman, Francisco Romero, Valentino Alonso, Tomás Wolf, Agustín Della Corte, Felipe Otaño, Andy Pruss, Blas Polidori, Felipe Ramusio, and Simón Hempe.

The screenplay is credited to J.A. Bayona, Bernat Vilaplana, Jaime Marques, and Nicolás Casariego.

Notably, the film’s score is composed by the acclaimed Michael Giacchino, known for his remarkable work on “The Batman” and various other notable projects. “Society of the Snow” promises to be an immersive and thrilling cinematic experience, taking viewers on an unforgettable journey through the depths of survival and resilience.
