‘Frankie Freako’: Director Steven Kostanski Unleashes a Rock ‘n’ Roll Party Monster in Hilarious Horror Comedy.
Variety reports that filmmaker Steven Kostanski, known for the cult hit ‘Psycho Goreman,’ is about to unleash another exciting horror comedy titled ‘Frankie Freako‘ onto the cinematic scene.
While ‘Psycho Goreman’ showcased Kostanski’s take on ’90s tokusatsu with an intergalactic conqueror, ‘Frankie Freako’ takes a different path, introducing a maniacal rock ‘n’ roll party monster to the mix.
Conor Sweeney, known for ‘The Editor’ and ‘Father’s Day,’ stars as the lead, accidentally releasing “a trio of tiny trouble-makers into his home, led by the maniacal rock ‘n’ roll party monster Frankie Freako.” It becomes a race against time for Conor to defeat these rambunctious ruffians and clean up the trail of destruction before his wife returns from her weekend work trip, all while embarking on an unexpected journey of self-discovery.
Alongside Conor Sweeney, Adam Brooks and Kristy Wordsworth also star in the film.
Production has wrapped up, and Shout! Studios have secured the U.S. distribution rights for ‘Frankie Freako.’ Although a release date has not been set yet, fans can rest assured that the film is on its way.
Jordan Fields, senior VP of acquisitions and originals at Shout!, expressed excitement about the partnership with Kostanski, describing him as a “human love letter to genre films.” Fields praised Kostanski’s impeccable sense of tone and humor, along with his wizardry with practical effects, making ‘Frankie Freako’ a delightful treat for fans of mischievous creature features from the past.
The film pays tribute to various practical effects-led projects like ‘Gremlins 2’ and ‘Ghoulies 3: Ghoulies Go to College.’
‘Frankie Freako’ is produced under Hanger 18 Media by Melanie Murray, Pasha Patriki, and Steven Kostanski, alongside Michael Paszt, Andrew Thomas Hunt, and James Fler. Avi Federgreen and Alison Waxman serve as executive producers, joined by Garson Foos, Bob Emmer, and Jordan Fields. Raven Banner will handle international sales and Canadian distribution.
Having charmed audiences with ‘Psycho Goreman,’ Steven Kostanski’s ‘Frankie Freako’ promises to delight viewers with its pint-sized murder monsters, reminiscent of classics like ‘Gremlins’ and ‘Critters.’ Fans eagerly anticipate more details as they unfold about this rock ‘n’ roll-infused horror comedy.
